Does Russell Wilson Need An NFL MVP Award To Justify All-Time Great Tag?

Russell Wilson will turn 32 in November. The 5 ft 11 in quarterback was a third-round pick by Seattle Seahawks in 2012. Since arriving in the league, Wilson has been terrific. He even won the Super Bowl in just his second full season in the NFL. Wilson has been a consistent performer for the Seahawks over the last eight years. However, he doesn’t seem to get the recognition he deserves.

Does Russell Wilson have to win an MVP award to go down as an all-time great?

On the latest segment of Speak For Yourself by hosts Emmanuel Acho and Marcellus Wiley, the topic of discussion was Seattle Seahawks’ Russel Wilson. It is public knowledge that Wilson, who won Super Bowl XLVIII and is a seven-time Pro Bowler, is yet to get an NFL MVP vote. Since Russell arrived in the league back in 2012, there have been 19 players to receive the vote. He has not gotten a single one….yet.

Acho argues that Wilson definitely needs to win an MVP award to go down as an all-time NFL great. The likes of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and even Ben Roethlisberger rank higher than Wilson as per Acho. The seasoned NFL shot-caller needs to win that honor in order to be considered an ‘elite’ great.

“For me, the number one and important thing is the winning part. The MVPs and stuff like and hopefully the votes — maybe I’ll get one, one day — but the reality is that I wake up to win it all and I wake up to be the best, too. I’m not going to shy away from that. If I do win MVP, it’s because we’re going great as a team and guys are making plays and we’re all doing it together. Hopefully, we can do that this year,” Wilson said via CBSSports.

Wilson will start his eighth season in the NFL this year. Great things are expected from Wilson and the Seahawks under the tutelage of Pete Carroll. Can the seasoned NFL shot-caller silence his doubters and make a strong statement this season?
