The debate of who is the ‘greatest player of all time’ or the G.O.A.T in tennis, reaches another level with every major event. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic are at the center of the debate and every Grand Slam win for either of the three players makes it all the more interesting. And now, Daniil Medvedev has given his verdict on who he thinks is the best player ever.
We have seen most other players give their views on their preference for G.O.A.T, and world number five Daniil Medvedev believes it is Roger Federer. It is always a tough pick, and Medvedev acknowledged that before picking Federer as he has won most Grand Slam titles. As a result, he said his opinion can change in the future.
Daniil Medvedev gives his preference for the ‘G.O.A.T’
“Tough question. For me, at this moment its Roger just because he won more Grand Slams than other people. So it can change,” Medvedev said.
The Russian star has faced Roger Federer thrice in his career so far and lost in all of those meetings.
He was then asked the one question he would have for the ‘Big 3’ if given a chance. Medvedev replied by saying,“If I could ask them one question, it would be: how do you win so many Grand Slam titles.”
The G.O.A.T debate is once again the talk of the town as the US Open starts on Monday. Despite the absence of Federer and Nadal, Djokovic will play the event. He thus has a chance to close the gap on Federer and Nadal by winning his 18th Grand Slam title.
Medvedev’s return to tennis
Medvedev is one of the strongest contenders to challenge Djokovic for the title. He was the finalist at the US Open last year, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in a thrilling five-set match. He came back from two sets down to take the match into a deciding set.
Daniil Medvedev returned to tennis at the Western and Southern Open this week, with a quarter-final appearance. He defeated Marcos Giron and Aljaz Bedene in the first two rounds, before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut.
