Despite being 43-years old, Fabricio Werdum is creating quite a buzz in free agency. The former UFC heavyweight champion is so confident that wherever he lands up, he will be doing good. Werdum is so confident in his training that he believes he can even win over Jon Jones.
Fabricio Werdum fought out his UFC contract with a win over Alexander Gustafsson. While he didn’t exactly close the door on a UFC return, he is aggressively exploring the options present in front of him.
He has talked about the possibility of a rematch with Fedor Emelianenko, whose long winning streak he ended in 2014. Another rematch that has been on Werdum’s radar is with Brandon Vera. The latter is the heavyweight champion in ONE Championship currently. However, when the two first met in 2008, the Brazilian got the better of Vera.
While talking to MMA Junkie, Werdum discussed the possibility of running it back with these two former opponents.
“For now, I think both are good – a rematch with Fedor and rematch with Brandon Vera. Brandon Vera is a champion with ONE FC. I love the belt. It’s a beautiful belt. Just waiting for Ali to say something,” Werdum said.
I beat Fedor when he was in his prime can you imagine what I can do to him now https://t.co/IppaP3PHXd

Fabricio Werdum ready to take on Jon Jones next week
Werdum is managed by the CEO of Dominance MMA, Ali Abdelaziz. As of right now, it seems that the two are figuring out what’s best for Werdum. The Brazilian has full confidence in Ali, who is also a good friend of his. If the veteran MMA manager presents the opportunity for Werdum to go against Jon Jones, the latter would accept it immediately.
“‘Hey Werdum, you wanna fight with Jon Jones next week?’. For sure,” he said.
“Jon Jones has zero problems to go to the heavyweight division. He is a heavyweight for a long time. For sure it doesn’t happen now, but I love the idea. I’m confident. One hundred percent I finish him too. I’m confident that’s it. I’m just training. My mind is good. I cam finish him or anybody,” Werdum added.
This isn’t the first time that Werdum has shown interest in a fight with the UFC pound-for-pound king. Back in 2015, Werdum wanted to bring back Jones so that he can fight him.
Currently, the two are headed towards separate career paths. Jones has relinquished his light heavyweight belt and will be moving up to heavyweight in the future. Werdum, on the other hand, will most likely end up in Bellator or ONE Championship.
