NBA star sparks feud with ex-teammate's wife

J.R Smith is widely known for throwing soup at an assistant coach and forgetting the score in a pivotal moment during the 2018 finals which led to one of the most memorable NBA memes of all time.

Yet the Lakers star keeps giving us little nuggets to remember him by once he's long gone from the league.

The two-time champion set off a feud this week with former teammate Sam Dekker and his reporter wife after he made some candid comments during a podcast appearance.

Speaking on the "All Things Covered" podcast with Arizona Cardinals star Patrick Peterson of the NFL, Smith was asked which teammate he disliked the most during his time in the NBA.

"Throughout my whole career, there's only one teammate I don't like," Smith said.

"He know that. Everybody else I'm cool with. Man, this dude Sam Dekker. This dude. He said some bulls–t on the bus one day, talking some Trump s–t. And I just wasn't having it.

"The question he asked, it's a thought pattern. You were taught that. It's the hate you give. The privilege he has was taught to him, and he took heed of it and run with it even further than somebody … who was oblivious to what they have and the life they lived.

"Because some people just go through their life not necessarily knowing, but not aware and privy to someone else's circumstances.

"He's a person who's just very aware of somebody else's circumstances and want to keep them there, as opposed to try to help him elevate up. And I don't respect anything about that."

Smith and Dekker were briefly teammates on the Cavaliers in 2018 and the comments sparked a stern reaction from Dekker's wife, Olivia Harlan-Dekker, the daughter of TNT broadcaster Kevin Harlan.

Dekker's better half heard what Smith had said and proceeded to defend her husband on Twitter describing the claims "Extremely inaccurate and unfair." And said to "Consider the source."

Dekker, who is currently playing in the Turkish Basketball League, tweeted that he was "blindsided" by Smith's comments, according to Deadspin. Dekker deleted the tweet.

"Well I am just as confused as y'all," Dekker wrote. "I'm pretty simple, I've never been one to get into politics. Especially 'Trump s--t.' I've never been a Trump guy, so this blindsided me."
