Former Fremantle and St Kilda coach Ross Lyon has voiced his concerns about the future of the GWS Giants amid the impending departure of Jeremy Cameron.
While the Giants have matched Geelong's contract offer to the 27-year-old, Cameron's future is all but certain to be at Kardinia Park, with the two sides currently negotiating a trade.
According to Fox Sports, the Giants have "flatly" rejected a list of players offered up by Geelong as makeweights in a Cameron trade, with Lachie Fogarty, Charlie Constable and Nakia Cockatoo among those mentioned.
Cameron's departure would make him one of at least six players to leave the club this summer, and Lyon is worried for how the loss of a foundation player like Cameron will impact the Giants.
"I have instinctively got some concern for them," he told Wide World of Sports.
"Jeremy Cameron, he just seemed the fabric of the team and the club, so to lose him it's not ideal obviously, he's a real pillar of the team.
"His form reflected where his mind was at during the year, he didn't play great football. He is a high, high-end performer who had a down year.
"I think they've got some huge challenges on their list, the talent flow out has been enormous. There's a couple of first-round picks that have gone or haven't come on.
"They've had a really big (premiership) window, but they'll be backing themselves in.
"They're demanding strong compensation (for Cameron), which is vital, and they've still got a number of A-graders there, but I think they've got some real concerns."
