Saints 'interested' in unwanted Treloar

The club may have just secured a deal for Adelaide midfielder Brad Crouch but this year's trade period is far from over for the Saints who have admitted to keeping close tabs on Collingwood's Adam Treloar.

On Wednesday, restricted free agent Brad Crouch officially joined the Saints on a four-year deal after the Crows failed to match St Kilda's offer.

Treloar, 27, is contracted to Collingwood until the end of the 2025 season but is reportedly being shopped around due to his large contract which is rumoured to be around $800,000-$900,000 per year.

Although "unlikely" at this stage, Saints football boss Simon Lethlean told SEN on Thursday the club would be "interested observers" in how the Treloar situation plays out with the Magpies looking to offload the midfielder.

Adam Treloar

"We're very interested observers," Lethlean said.

"Treloar is a sensational player. But if you asked me right now if he'd be at the Saints, I'd say it's very unlikely. We don't have the cap space or the assets to be getting that deal done. We certainly haven't spoken to Adam or Collingwood.

"We did say if the Crouch deal fell over, we would potentially have a look at him as that midfielder that we were looking for. Given the Crouch deal has gone ahead, I think our focus and our ability to get that done is pretty minimal.

"I think it's a difficult one for us to get done with where we're at, based on having just done the deal with Crouch. You never say never, but I really think it's unlikely. It would just be too hard for us at the moment."

Adam Treloar

It's been reported that another reason behind Collingwood's intentions to move on from Treloar was the midfielder being unwanted by the club's senior playing group.

Collingwood list manager Ned Guy on Wednesday spoke out about the ongoing speculation surrounding the future of Treloar.

"We're just working through a few things with Adam and his manager Tim," he told AFL Trade Radio.

"I know there's been some conjecture as to when we were going to talk about it, but there's an agreement with Tim Hazell, who is Adam's manager, that we weren't going to play this one out and publicly air negotiations and discussion through the media.

"But we're still just working through that with him at the moment."
