Keenan Allen Singles Out Davante Adams, Amari Cooper For Special Praise

It’s safe to say that Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen has been overlooked over the last two years. Allen has been with the Chargers since 2013. Of course, back then, they were called the San Diego Chargers. After a few tough years in the initial stages of his NFL career, Allen began to find form since the 2017 season.

Allen has crossed the 1,000 receiving yards mark in his last three seasons. He averages 6.3 receptions per game and will once again be a vital component of the Chargers offense in 2020. Here’s what the seasoned NFL wideout had to say about his 2020 offseason prep.

Allen revealed that he’s been studying the likes of Green Bay Packers’ Davante Adams and Dallas Cowboys’ Amari Cooper in the offseason. Both of these two stars were standout performers in 2019. Cooper, in particular, had a brilliant individual season with the Cowboys. He is tipped for yet another stellar season alongside Michael Gallup and NFL rookie CeeDee Lamb. In addition to that, Keenan also said he watches clips of Minnesota Vikings wideout Stefon Diggs and veteran Patriots WR Julian Edelman.

Allen looking forward to playing with new quarterback Tyrod Taylor

In an earlier interview with Sports Illustrated, Allen spoke about his newfound connection with 31-year old Chargers quarterback – Tyrod Taylor.

“I feel like we have been doing a good job, though. It’s only our third of practice so we haven’t hit all the plays and we haven’t scripted any plays, so I don’t get all the passes me and Phil (Rivers) would do during the games. Once we get to that point, I am sure our connection will be solid.”

Speaking about the peculiar conditions surrounding the 2020 season, Allen added, “I guess it was a little different. I was still able to work out. We had a gym we could go to with a private guy. I got a little stronger. I got a little bigger. This offseason, I was in the weight room a little bit more, so I feel like this is probably the best I have ever entered camp as far as shape-wise.”

The Chargers start their 2020 campaign with an interesting game against Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals. Let’s see if they can get off to a winning start with their new attacking combo of Taylor and Allen.
